• January 1 – Winter Lights closes for the 2002/2003 season at Six Flags Great Adventure.
• January 9 - Six Flags European Parks announces that Walibi Schtroumpf (Smurf) will be rebranded asWalibi Lorraine for the 2003 season. This change was done after Puyo decided to not renew their licensing agreement with Six Flags and led to the removal of all theming related to The Smurfs.
