Batman: The Ride was a steel inverted roller coaster located in the DC Comics Super Heroes Adventures area at Six Flags New Orleans. It opened on April 12, 2003 and closed with the park on August 22, 2005, which was never re-opened due to extensive damage by Hurricane Katrina.
It was later salvaged from the abandoned theme park and was relocated to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, where it operates today as Goliath.
History[]
The ride was originally called "Gambit" at a park in Japan before Six Flags purchased the ride in 2002. When Jazzland was purchased by Six Flags that year and would now be known as Six Flags New Orleans, the coaster's tracks were repainted yellow and renamed Batman: the Ride! Although coasters like it exists throughout the world, this style was new to Louisiana. On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit the park. Thankfully, Batman: the Ride ended up being the only salvageable ride to remain unscathed due to its elevated platform and high support structure. It was dismantled, repainted, and restored at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, where it now operates as Goliath.
Ride experience[]
The ride starts off with a 105-ft chain lift hill. At the top, it drops 85 ft to the right, like Six Flags St. Louis. It gets to its top speed of 50 mph and then goes through a vertical loop, a Zero-G-Roll and a second vertical loop. Next, it goes trough turns and 2 corkscrews. Finally, it goes into the final brake run.
