Beagle Express Railroad

The Beagle Express Railroad (formerly known as the Grand Sierra Railroad) is a 2-foot gauge miniature train ride at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. The station to board the train is located next to Sierra Sidewinder in the Camp Snoopy area.

History[]

The Grand Sierra Scenic Railroad was opened with the Camp Snoopy area in July 1983 after Knott's representative Ron Mizaker secured a deal with Charles M. Schulz to license the Peanuts characters.[1][2] The route was shortened in 2004 to make way for the Silver Bullet inverted coaster.[3] As part of a makeover of the Camp Snoopy area for its 30th anniversary, the railway station and route were renovated with additional Peanuts theming in 2014.[4][5]

Trains[]

The railroad operates with engine #83, reflecting the opening season of the ride and the Camp Snoopy area. It was originally a diesel-hydraulic model in a 4-4-0 wheel configuration from Crown Metal Products that had been set up to run on propane. The ride was re-tracked and the locomotive was replaced with a 2-4-0 electric version (retaining the number 83) as part of renovations for the 40th anniversary of the area between the 2023 and 2024 seasons.[3][6]
