The Boardwalk area opened in 1996, replacing the former Roaring 20's section of the park. Themed after a real coastal boardwalk, the area serves as a tribute to the seaside culture of Southern California.[1] In 2013, the Boardwalk area underwent multi-million dollar renovations.[2] The revamped area soft-opened on Thursday, May 23, 2013 and fully opened with 3 new rides on the following Saturday, May 25th. The water areas are known to contain live fish.[3][4][5]
