The ride was derived from Scooby-Doo! and the Haunted Castle, designed by Sally Dark Rides and opened for the 2003 season at Paramount's Kings Island. However, after Cedar Fair acquired most of the Paramount Parks chain, the license for Scooby-Doo was discontinued. Sally worked with Cedar Fair to re-theme the ride, removing any characters, music, or other elements specific to the Scooby-Doo animated series. The revised ride was opened as "Boo Blasters on Boo Hill" in April for the 2010 season.[1]
Closure[]
Boo Blasters on Boo Hill operated for the last time on September 1, 2025, after which it was closed permanently. The dark ride facilities will be re-purposed into Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare, with theming that will be derived from the original Phantom Theater dark ride that had previously operated on the site from 1992 to 2002.[2]
