Bugs Bunny is the main character of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies. He is a sly, happy-go-lucky bunny rabbit and the leader of the Looney Tunes. Six Flags New England calls him "your friend and mine" and "our wesident wabbit."

He first appeared in the 1938 animated short Porky's Hare Hunt, where he was known as "Happy Rabbit".

Since 1985, Bugs Bunny has been a mascot of Six Flags, and has been featured in many attractions, shows, merchandise, whole themed sections, and more.

History[]

This applies to Six Flags parks only.

Before 1984[]

Bugs Bunny first appeared at a Six Flags related establishment in 1971 at the grand opening of Magic Mountain. However, WB and Magic Mountain had a fallout, resulting in him being outed in favor of original Troll Doll like characters. Bugs Bunny appeared at Warner Bros.' Jungle Habitat park in New Jersey a year later.

Then in 1975, the Marriott Hotels corporation bought the rights to the Looney Tunes for theme park use. Bugs Bunny would appear at their two Great America parks wearing an Uncle Sam suit.

However, in 1984, Marriott grew uninterested with running parks; so their Chicago park and the Looney Tunes license were sold to Bally, who owned Six Flags. Since they needed a replacement character for Pac-Man, who they feared wouldn't sell well after the Video Game Crash of 1983, they chose Bugs Bunny. While he had never appeared on a big screen short since 1964, his television appearances kept younger generations craving for more. Bugs Bunny was added to the other Six Flags parks, where he still greets guests to this day.

Time Warner era[]

Bugs Bunny and his friends' success at Six Flags was a factor in Time Warner purchasing the company. With WB owning the parks, Bugs Bunny was made the main face, along with the DC superheroes (appearing in theme parks for the first time ever.) Bugs got to wear a tuxedo and meet lots of guests who watched him on TV.
