The ride was built by the Dentzel Carousel Company in 1896 and was first installed at Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1902.[1][2] In 1936, it was moved to Brady Park in Canton, Ohio. In 1955, it was brought to Knott's Berry Farm, where it was simply called "Merry-Go-Round". It was relocated to its current location next to Reflection Lake to make way for Tampico Tumbler, which opened in 1987. The Merry-Go-Round was renamed to "Carrusel de California" in 2023 as part of the refurbishment of the Fiesta Village area. It is among fewer than two dozen Dentzel carousels that remain in existence.[3][4]
