Catwoman Whip is an upcoming ride that will open at Six Flags St. Louis in 2022. It is themed after the DC Comics anti hero Catwoman, and will be located in the Britannia section of the park near Supergirl Sky Flyer.[1]
History
On August 22, 2019, Six Flags St. Louis tweeted "The cat's almost out of the bag! 😉 Our new 2020 attraction will be announced next Thursday morning". Fans speculated that the "cat out of the bag" saying with the winky face emoji at the end was a reference to Catwoman, and that the 2020 attraction would be something related to the DC Comics anti hero.
On August 29, 2019, Six Flags St. Louis officially announced Catwoman Whip as the park's 2020 attraction.[1]
Although not formally announced by the park, when Six Flags St. Louis had its delayed season opener on June 22, signage in the park confirmed that Catwoman Whip had also been delayed as a result of the pandemic and would not open for the 2020 season as previously advertised but would instead open in 2021. In 2021, it was pushed back again to a 2022 opening.
Experience
Entering through a Gotham City-esque "Catwoman Whip" archway adorned with Catwoman herself, guests in the station are loaded on both ends of the "arm" of the ride, seated 4 across back to back for a total of 8 riders on each end and a total of 16 riders. The giant arm catapults guests 164 feet in the air at speeds of up to 52 mph, only to plummet back down to the ground and then repeat the rotation again and again. In addition to the continuous motion of the arm, the seats on each end rotate 360 degrees individually.
Trivia
- The design of Catwoman used for promotional material of Catwoman Whip and shown in concept renderings on the entrance archway is based on her "New 52" appearance in DC Comics.
- Despite Catwoman Whip being planned to be included in the Britannia section of the park, Six Flags St. Louis has not referred to the area in any of the promotional material, and has instead referred to it as the "northwest corner of the park" between The Boss and Supergirl Sky Flyer. It's unclear if this means there are plans for a retheme of Britannia to a new DC Comics themed section, or if Catwoman Whip simply won't tie in to the overall Brittania theme, much like Supergirl Sky Flyer.
