Cedar Fair

Cedar Fair, L.P. (Cedar Fair Limited Partnership), known formally as Cedar Fair Entertainment Company or simply Cedar Fair, was a regional amusement/theme park, water park, and resort operating company headquartered at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, which the company owned.

History[]

Founded in 1983, the company's origins date all the way back to 1870 with the opening of Cedar Point, which was Cedar Fair's first property. The company's name originated from the combined names of Cedar Point and Valleyfair, the latter of which was acquired by Cedar Point's management in 1978. Cedar Fair grew as they acquired Dorney Park in 1992, Worlds of Fun in 1995, Knott's Berry Farm in 1997, Michigan's Adventure in 2001, and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure (Geauga Lake) in 2004. The company's largest acquisition came in 2006 with the purchase of Paramount Parks and its portfolio. In 2019, the company acquired the Schlitterbahn locations in Galveston and New Braunfels. Besides acquisitions, Cedar Fair also built new properties, including several Knott's Soak City water parks in California. The first location opened in Buena Park in 1999, followed by Chula Vista in 2000 and Palm Springs in 2001. In 2024, Cedar Fair merged with Six Flags, with the two companies combining under the name Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.
