Wonder Woman: Flight of Courage is a single-rail steel roller coaster which opened on July 16, 2022 at Six Flags Magic Mountain. It is located in DC Universe, in the spot of the former roller coaster Green Lantern: First Flight and Tidal Wave. The ride is manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction and seems to be a near-clone of Jersey Devil Coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure.

History[]

Pre-announcement[]

In 2020, the park had proposed to the Los Angeles County to build a new roller coaster with a similar layout to Jersey Devil Coaster. Apparently, the park would've opened the ride in time for 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic and temporary closure for the rest of the 2020 season, the park delayed the project to the following year. [1]

Track for the ride arrived in July 2021, and later in August, red supports. In early September, footers popped up on the former land of Tidal Wave. Red supports and yellow track were sitting in the back-lot of the amusement park before the announcement. On October 20, 2021, the park announced that it would announce something the following day with the caption "Something SUPER is Landing." [2]

Announcement[]

On October 21, 2021, the single-rail coaster, named Wonder Woman: Flight of Courage, was officially announced. It would be a near-replica of Jersey Devil Coaster, which is one feet shorter than the attraction. It was also announced on the 80th anniversary of Wonder Woman. The ride reuses Green Lantern: First Flight's former station.

Construction[]

Green Lantern: First Flight was closed in 2017, and Tidal Wave was closed in 2019. Both rides and some food shops at DC Universe were removed to make room for construction, which began in 2021. The surrounding area in DC Universe was also underwent renovation during the construction.

The loading station of Green Lantern: First Flight was retained for use by Wonder Woman: Flight of Courage, hidden behind a new facade themed as "The Embassy of Themyscira".

Opening[]

The ride started testing in June 2022 after the final section of track was installed.[3] Its official opening date was announced on June 29, 2022 to open to riders on July 16, an exclusive pass-holder preview on July 15, and a media day event on July 14, 2022. The updated DC Universe area was soft-opened, but was not completed until during Fright Fest 2022 in the fall.[4]

Experience[]

Queue[]

Guests first pass underneath the entrance sign and go through a switchback section. Following this, guests make a left turn and approach the end of the pathway that joins The Flash Pass entrance. Then, guests head into The Embassy of Themyscira. Inside, there is another switchback section with pictures of Roman gods and weapons. Once this area is completed, guests walk through a hallway and enter the locker room. This area also contains a chicken exit for guests who decide not to ride the attraction. Guests then climb the stairs and head into the loading station.

Layout[]

Once the train leaves the station, riders turn right and climb the 131 foot chain lift hill. At the top, the train drops 127 feet at a max speed of 58 mph. The drop leads into the dive loop. Riders then go through an airtime hill, followed by a zero-g stall. After this, the train passes through a right-handed turnaround. This is followed by a zero-g roll and a block brake. The train makes a left-handed turn and goes through some airtime hills. Following an over-banked turn, riders hit the final brake run. The train turns left and returns to the station, where they exit the ride.
