Statement about the Six Flags-Cedar Fair merger Click here for our statement about how wiki content will change following the Six Flags-Cedar Fair merger.
The coaster originally opened on March 19, 1993 as Top Gun, named after the 1986 film from Paramount Pictures. After the park was sold by Paramount Parks to Cedar Fair in 2006, Top Gun-specific theming was removed and the coaster was renamed to "Flight Deck" at the end the 2007 season. It was briefly renamed to "Afterburn" in the following January before quickly being changed back in 2008.[1] The ride sported a black color scheme with black supports until it was repainted red with white supports for the 2014 season to match the colors of Levi's Stadium, the newly built home of the San Francisco 49ers, located across the parking lot. Tailgate packages were offered for 49er fans to have access to food at the stadium and rides on the roller coaster.[2]
