Flight of Fear is a steel-launched indoor roller coaster located at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia.
History[]
The ride is one of two identical roller coasters manufactured by Premier Rides that originally opened as Outer Limits: Flight of Fear on June 18, 1996; the other Flight of Fear is located at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio. Both Flight of Fear coasters were the first to feature a linear induction motor (LIM) launch.[1] The ride has won three awards from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, including one for Major Theme/Amusement Park Ride/Attraction and two for Technology Applied to Amusements.
Professional voice actor Jim Cummings provided the voice of the alien leader that speaks to guests in the preshow and in the station.[2]
After the 2000 season, the over-the-shoulder restraints were replaced with lap bars. During this time, the Outer Limits theming was removed from the ride.
Experience[]
Riders board their vehicle and pull down the lap bar. When everyone is buckled in, the ride accelerates out of the station inside a 220-foot-long tunnel, which leads riders into the "spaghetti bowl". There, riders flip into a cobra roll and a sidewinder, after these 3 elements, riders twist and turn into some banked turns, riders come across the mid-course brake run. Then they spiral down to the left continuing some more banked turns. Finally, riders flip into the corkscrew, and slam into the final brake run.
