Flying Ace (formerly the Red Baron) is a spinning flat ride at the Camp Snoopy area of Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California.

History

The ride was manufactured by Chance Rides and originally opened as the "Red Baron" in the Roaring 20's area as part of its "Airfield" expansion that was opened on June 12, 1976. The center of the ride was adorned with a stylized model of the Sopwith Camel biplane painted to somewhat resemble the colors of the Red Baron's Fokker Dr.I triplane from World War I.

In 1983, the ride was moved to the new Camp Snoopy area, where it opened on July 1st between the Balloon Race and Huff and Puff while retaining its "Red Baron" name. The new kid's area had been previewed to employees and their children on the preceding June 27th, 28th, and 30th. A figure of Snoopy with goggles on his flying doghouse replaced the model of the biplane at the center of the ride. The ride was relocated in 2000 to make way for Charlie Brown's Speedway. It was relocated again to its current location next to the Grizzly Creek Lodge during renovations of the area in 2014, replacing Joe Cool's GR8 SK8 and adopting its current name "Flying Ace".

Ride vehicles

The ride features 8 vehicles themed as biplanes, which can each seat two people, for a total of up to 16 riders. Guests must be between 36 to 54 inches tall to ride.
