Six Flags Fright Fest or simply Fright Fest is an annual Halloween event that is hosted at all Six Flags parks in North America and Mexico from mid-September to late October or even early November. The event typically features various haunted attractions and scare zones, as well as Halloween-themed live entertainment.

History[]

Fright Fest originated in 1986 at Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas, when the event was known as Fright Nights. It was a huge success in Houston and because of this the event was slowly but surely expanded to all other Six Flags Theme Parks throughout the late 1980s to early 1990s. The name change from Fright Nights to Fright Fest came in 1992, as then-Six Flags parent company Time Warner wanted a unified brand for all of the parks' Halloween events.

With Six Flags Theme Parks' acquisition by Premier Parks in 1998, Fright Fest was introduced at all of Premier's properties that were rebranded as Six Flags parks in 1999 and 2000, including but not limited to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, Six Flags America, and Six Flags New England. Fright Fest is even hosted at parks that are considered "spin-off" parks, like La Ronde and Frontier City. When Six Flags unsuccesfully expanded into the European market in the early 2000s, the event came to Six Flags Belgium as Halloween Horror Fest. Fright Fest debuted at Six Flags Mexico in 2012, where it is known as Festival del Terror.
