The Ghost Town area first opened in 1940, a creation of park founder Walter Knott and his tribute to the American pioneers, which included his own grandparents. Ghost Town is notable for predating the conversion of the Knott's property to a theme park. Most of the area was designed by artist Paul von Klieben.[1]
