Gotham City is a themed area at Six Flags Over Texas, based on the fictional city from DC Comics. It features various characters and aspects of the Batman mythos. The area opened in 1999, along with the debut of Batman: The Ride.
On May 28, 2016, the expanded Gotham City was re-opened, including three new "villainous attractions", Catwoman Whip, The Riddler Revenge, and Harley Quinn Spinsanity.[1]
History[]
On May 24, 2016 at 11 AM, Six Flags Over Texas held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the expanded Gotham City. Officers from the Arlington Police Department were on hand to "keep guests safe" from Catwoman and the other villains. Following the police officers, members of the media and VIP guests were given the opportunity to be among the first people to ride the three new villain-themed rides for Gotham City's media day.
On May 26 and May 27, Six Flags season passholders were able to experience the new rides first before they fully opened to the public on May 28.[2]
On January 20, 2018, Six Flags Over Texas presented at ACE Winterfest at ZDT's Amusement Park in Seguin, Texas. During their presentation, they announced that Harley Quinn Spinsanity would be removed, though they reportedly made it sound like it could possibly return in the future.[3]
On June 6, 2018, the cast of the the New Line Cinema film Tag came to Six Flags Over Texas to attempt to break the world record for the largest game of freeze tag. In Gotham City, cast members Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Jon Hamm, and Jeremy Renner all participated with park guests for their world record attempt. They were successful in setting the new world record for largest game of freeze tag with 661 participants, breaking the record of 634 set by The Today Show in 2017.[4]
