Greased Lightnin' was a steel shuttle loop roller coaster that operated at California's Great America from June 8, 1977 to 2002. It was a weight-drop launch model that was manufactured by Schwarzkopf.
History[]
The ride originally opened in California's Great America as Tidal Wave on June 8, 1977. It was re-themed with a new paint job and renamed to "Greased Lightnin'" in 1999. It closed in 2002 and was sold to Six Flags, after which it was stored nearby in the parking lot of Six Flags Marine World from 2003 to 2006. However, it was never opened there as the parts were instead used by Greezed Lightnin', similar coaster model at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.
Ride experience[]
The ride started when the train went through a weight drop launch which catapulted the train to 57 mph. After going through the vertical loop, it hit a 137.8-ft vertical spike, and then fell backwards into the vertical loop again. The train went through the station, until it went up an another vertical spike. Finally, the train slowed down and returned back to the station.
