Greezed Lightnin' was a steel shuttle loop roller coaster located at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. It opened in April 2003 and closed in November 2009.
History[]
On April 25, 2003, Greezed Lightnin' opened to guests. The coaster used a weight drop system.
During the 2005-2006 off-season, spare parts from another Greased Lightnin' at California's Great America were used on the coaster. It last operated for the 2009 season.
In early February 2010, it was announced that Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom would shutter after Six Flags had filed for bankruptcy. The Kentucky State Fair Board took control of the park and re-opened it as "Kentucky Kingdom".
In 2013, the defunct ride was sold for scrap and was demolished.
As of 2024, the last Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loops still operating in the United States were Montezooma's Revenge at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California and the upcoming Shuttle Loop at Indiana Beach in Monticello, Indiana, which both used a flywheel launch system, though Montezooma's Revenge is being upgraded to an electromagnetic launch system. The last two Shuttle Loop models with weight drop systems were Golden Loop at Gold Reef City in South Africa and Katapul from Hopi Hari park in Brazil, of which only the latter is still operating.[1][2]
Layout[]
The ride starts when the train goes through a weight drop launch which catapults the train from 0-57 mph in 6 seconds into an 80-ft vertical loop. After going through the vertical loop, it hits a 138-ft vertical spike, and then it falls back into the vertical loop again. The train goes through the station until it goes up another vertical spike. Finally, the train slows down and goes back to the station.
