Harley Quinn Spinsanity is a Zamperla Giant Discovery located in Gotham City at Six Flags America. It was manufactured by Zamperla, and opened on May 14, 2021. The ride is themed after the villain Harley Quinn.
History[]
Background[]
In 2019, the park announced the closure and demolition of Dare Devil Dive, a Skycoaster ride. Later that year, markers for a new ride for the park in 2020 were spotted, causing more speculation as to what the new ride would be.
Announcement and construction[]
On August 29, 2019, Six Flags announced Harley Quinn Spinsanity, a Giant Discovery pendulum ride, that would open in 2020. It would be the tallest and fastest in the DMV. (District, Maryland, Virginia)[1]
The ride was constructed mostly during the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the park's closure and was mostly finished when the park reopened in early-July.[2] By September 2020, the ride's operation buildings were in shape.
Throughout the park's off-season up to park opening, most of the queue, operation buildings, and theming were finished in an announcement video with the new park president of Six Flags America, Richard Pretlow. [3]
Grand opening[]
On April 29, 2021, the park officially announced the opening for Harley Quinn Spinsanity. The ride will be open for guests Diamond and Diamond Elite membership on May 7. By May 8 and May 9, the ride was available for all season pass holders including Platinum, Gold Plus and Season Pass holders. The official opening date for the general public was on May 14, 2021. [4]
Ride experience[]
When the ride dispatches, the pendulum slowly lifts up, gradually gaining momentum as it gets higher into the air while spinning riders into the air. The pendulum has a maximum speed of 70 mph and is around 147 feet tall in the air. The ride ends by slowing down and then stopping. The nearby Riddle Me This can't operate while this is operating and vice-versa
Incidents[]
- On June 22, 2021, one of the rides supports columns were shaking aggressively, causing riders to shake up and down. No one was injured, but the ride remained closed. [5]
