Injun Joe's Cave was a dark ride at Six Flags St. Louis, located in the Spain section of the park. It was based on the Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn stories by Mark Twain. It opened with the park on June 5, 1971, and was designed by Sid and Marty Krofft. It was later replaced by Time Tunnel in 1979.
Ride experience[]
The ride begins with a cruise through a swamp area. A green and pink alligator take bows at the boat, and there is a group of lily pads with frogs singing. In the next scene, Injun Joe is in a graveyard digging out a treasure chest from the ground. Muff Potter stands near him with a lantern to illuminate the area. Later in Injun Joe's cave, Muff Potter is kneeling over the treasure chest when Injun Joe stands behind him with a hunting knife. Tom and Becky watch from the other side of the cave while there are bats flying around them. In another part of the cave there is a skeleton of an Indian chief, on a skeletal canoe. Nearby there is another Indian chief with a robe closed by folded arms, and he uncovers his robe to reveal a skeleton form underneath, wearing nothing but a loin cloth. The boat goes up and over a lift, and in the next scene Injun Joe falls off of a cliff while Tom and Becky look on. Further on there is a dark room with shifty, glowing eyes. Tom sees a raft and says "Becky look it is a raft- we're saved!" In the ride's final scene, Tom and Becky get on the raft and escape the cave. There is a riverboat in the distance with a turning paddlewheel, and Aunt Polly is in front of her house waving a handkerchief at Tom and Becky. Aunt Polly's dog barks and wags its tail in excitement.
