Iron Rattler is a steel roller coaster located in Crackaxle Canyon at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It was manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction and opened on May 25, 2013.
The ride is a RMC conversion of The Rattler, which opened on March 14, 1992 and closed on August 4, 2012. The Rattler was manufactured by RCCA, which is most well known for creating the now-defunct Son of Beast.
History[]
Opening[]
On May 15, 2013, Fiesta Texas held its media day.[1]
Temporary closure[]
In July 2013, Iron Rattler was temporarily closed as officials investigated the ride following a fatal accident at New Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas. Fiesta Texas spokeswoman Sydne Purvis described that the reason for closing was because New Texas Giant is a "somewhat similar, but not identical" RMC hybrid coaster, and that it was just a precaution.[2] The ride reopened on August 14, and seatbelts were added to the trains after extensive safety checks.[3]
Attraction experience[]
Queue[]
In Iron Rattler's queue, sounds of rattlesnakes can be heard.[1] It has a western theme.
Ride[]
After the train leaves the station, it turns left and then goes up an 180-foot lift hill, before dropping 171 feet at an angle of 81°. The train then ascends up the track onto the top of the quarry wall, where it enters an 110° over-banked turn. Then, a 95° over-banked turn leads to the left, back off the quarry wall. The ride then rises into the zero-g roll which sits atop the quarry wall. A camel back hill is followed by two more over-banked turns, measuring 98° and 93°. The train then drops back off the quarry wall and enters a tunnel near its base. The tunnel features fog and lighting effects. After exiting the tunnel, the train enters brake run and returns to the station.
Characteristics[]
Trains[]
Iron Rattler's trains were manufactured by Gerstlauer, and the front of the train is designed to look like the head of a rattlesnake. The seats are brown, and the lap bars are black. The trains are similar to New Texas Giant, though they don't have any side decorating. From the ride's Memorial Day opening in 2013, it only had a lap bar, but upon its temporary closure and then reopening in August, seatbelts were added for extra safety.
