The Johnny Rockets Group is an American restaurant franchise with 1950's themed diner-style restaurants. Since 2007, Johnny Rockets has introduced 13 Johnny Rockets locations at Six Flags parks.
History[]
In 2007, two years after winning control of Six Flags, Inc. in a bitter proxy battle in 2005 and installing Mark Shapiro as CEO, Daniel Snyder's company Red Zone bought Johnny Rockets.[1]
As a result of the purchase of the company and Dan Snyder's direct involvement with both companies, Six Flags and Johnny Rockets signed a "more than $29 million" agreement to introduce Johnny Rockets locations to Six Flags parks in 2007 as a way to give Red Zone's eateries prime exposure. Snyder also received 5% of the revenue from everything sold at the locations.[2]
On June 13, 2009, Six Flags, Inc. filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after attaining over $2.4 billion in debt. As part of his direct involvement in the failure and near-collapse of the company, Dan Snyder was ousted from the board on May 1, 2010.[3]
In 2013, Snyder sold Johnny Rockets to Sun Capital Partners. The current Johnny Rockets locations are expected to be replaced once Six Flags' contract with the company expires at the end of 2019.[4]
