Kings Island (abbreviated KI) is a Six Flags theme park located in Mason, Ohio. It opened on April 29. 1972, and was originally built by the Taft Broadcasting Company. The park consists of the main theme park and the accompanying Soak City water park, and the main park is divided into eight themed sections. It has been owned by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation since July 1, 2024 as a result of the merger between Six Flags and Cedar Fair. The latter had owned the park since 2006, when it was acquired as part of the buyout of Paramount Parks. Kings Island is notable for having gone through several changes in ownership and operation. Paramount acquired the park from American Financial Company in 1992 and renamed it Paramount's Kings Island. The American Financial Group previously had purchased the park from the Kings Entertainment Company (KECO) in 1987, while still allowing KECO to operate it. Kings Entertainment Company took over ownership and operations from Taft Broadcasting Company after they sold off their theme park division in 1984.
International Street opened with Kings Island when it opened in 1972. Originally designed by Bruce Bushman, the area's architecture and cultural themes represent the nations of Italy, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland.
Action Zone originally opened in 1974, when it was known as Lion Country Safari. It went through several renames including Wild Animal Safari in 1977, Wild Animal Habitat in 1983, Adventure Village in 1994, and finally Action Zone in 1999.
Area 72 originally opened in 1996 as a sub-area of Coney Mall with the opening of Flight of Fear (originally The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear). It was formally established as a distinct area in 2020 with the opening of Orion.
Planet Snoopy opened in 2010, taking over from the former Nickelodeon Universe which operated until 2009. Before that, the area was known as Hanna-Barbera Land.
Soak City is a water park included with admission. It originally opened in 1989 when it was known as WaterWorks before being renamed to Crocodile Dundee's Boomerang Bay in 2004.
