Krypton Comet was a ride that operated in the Gotham City area of Six Flags America from 2000 to 2005.
History[]
The ride was a Chaos model that was manufactured by Chance Rides. Six Flags America added Superman: Ride of Steel and Krypton Comet to the new the Gotham City area for the 2000 season. Krypton Comet in particular was themed to Superman's homeworld of Krypton. Another similarly-themed ride was Kryptonite Kollider at Six Flags New England, though that was themed to kryptonite and not Krypton itself. Krypton Comet was temporarily closed after an incident at Michigan's Adventure in 2001 where a ride of the same model basically fell apart during operation. It was permanently removed in 2005 and the former site of the ride is now occupied by Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth.
Trivia[]
- Chance Rides' Chaos model was first manufactured in 1996, making Krypton Comet one of the first models to be purchased and installed. Just under 50 models had been produced when production ceased in 2007.[1]
- Old press materials from the time of its opening call this ride a "family ride," when in fact it's anything but.
- Fright Fest 2018 had Krypton Comet's grave shown along with Iron Eagle and a few other rides.
