Magnum XL-200 is a steel hyper roller coaster located at the Gemini Midway area of Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio.

History

The ride was designed by Ron Toomer and manufactured by Arrow Dynamics. Built at a cost of $8 million, it opened at the park on May 9, 1989. It is considered the world's first hypercoaster, a complete-circuit roller coaster that is over 200 feet tall.

Design

Trains

The coaster features 3 trains with 6 cars per train. Riders are arranged 2 across in 3 rows in each car for a total of 36 riders per train.

Awards

Magnum XL-200 was voted Best Steel Coaster by Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards in 1998, 1999, and 2000. It was recognized as a Coaster Landmark by American Coaster Enthusiasts on June 21, 2004.
