The North End is an area of Six Flags New England. It carries a general New England theme, with its attractions reflecting the region and its heritage.
History[]
Riverside Park[]
In 1999, Premier Parks added Blizzard River to the North End, replacing a set of dry slides and the old Bumper Cars attraction.
Six Flags New England[]
In 1998, Premier Parks acquired Six Flags Theme Parks from Time Warner for $1.86 billion. As part of the deal, some of Premier Parks' existing properties would be re-branded as Six Flags parks. Riverside Park operated for the 1998 and 1999 seasons as it usually did, but at the end of the 1999 season it was announced that Riverside would be rebranded "Six Flags New England" in 2000. This brought almost $200 million in expansions and renovations, most notably of which was the addition of the new DC Super Heroes area and several new attractions. One of these new attractions was Flashback, a Vekoma Boomerang roller coaster that was added to the North End.
In 2005, Mr. Six's Pandemonium was added to the North End, and all-new family spinning coaster from Gerstlauer that was named after Six Flags' popular new mascot, Mr. Six. It was renamed to simply "Pandemonium" in 2007 after Mr. Six was retired for the first time, later to be brought back.
In late August 2011, it was announced that Goliath would be coming to Crack Axle Canyon for the park's 2012 season. Simultaneously, it was announced that Shipwreck Falls, a water ride located in the North End of the park, would be closing to make way for this attraction.
In late 2013, the record-breaking New England SkyScreamer, a 400-foot-tall swing tower, was announced for the 2014 season. The new ride was placed in the North End next to Blizzard River. It opened to the public on May 15, 2014.[1]
At the end of the 2014 season the Cyclone, previously the Riverside Cyclone, was closed after over 30 years of operation. It was announced that Cyclone would be given an "RMC conversion" to be transformed into Wicked Cyclone. The newly updated coaster opened on May 24, 2015.
