Perilous Plunge was a water ride at the Boardwalk area of Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California.
History[]
The ride was manufactured by Intamin and opened at the park on September 15, 2000, replacing the Pacific Pavilion and HeadSpin.[1][2]
Incident[]
On September 21, 2001, 40-year-old Lori Mason-Larez fell out of the ride as it was about to drop. She was declared dead at West Anaheim Medical Center after having suffered a fractured skull and severed leg. The seat restraints on the vehicle were still locked and her weight was cited as a factor in the accident.[3][4] Her family and Cedar Fair settled a wrongful death lawsuit out of court in March 2003 without admission of guilt.[5]
Closure[]
The ride was closed on September 3, 2012 and was replaced by Coast Rider, Pacific Scrambler, and Surfside Gliders in 2013 after a revamp of the area.[2][4]
