Screamin' Eagle is a wooden roller coaster in the Illinois section of Six Flags St. Louis. It opened on April 10, 1976 for America's Bicentennial, and was designed by John C. Allen and manufactured by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters.
When the ride first opened, it was the longest and fastest roller coaster in the world.[1]
History[]
Construction for Screamin' Eagle began in 1975, with the ride being worked on by Frontier Construction Corporation, Guarantee Electrical Company, Inc., V&S Concrete Contractors, Inc., St. Louis Automatic Sprinkler Company, and Benruss Painting Company.[1]
In 1990, the Screamin' Eagle "soared into the 90's" with the "New Faster Screamin' Eagle", which was a new, faster version of the original coaster.
In 1994, Screamin' Eagle was temporarily operated backwards.[2]
On June 21, 2016, Screamin' Eagle was awarded the status of roller coaster landmark by the American Coaster Enthusiasts.[3]
