The Showcase Theatre, originally the Americana Music Hall, is a performing arts theater located in Movietown at Six Flags Great Adventure. It opened in 1978 as a main venue for summer shows, but it is now used primarily for seasonal events.[1]
The Americana Music Hall debuted in 1978, as part of major enhancements to the park done after Great Adventure was purchased by the Six Flags Corporation in the Fall of 1977.
When Six Flags was owned by Time Warner, a lot of changes were made to the parks throughout the 1990s in order to give them more cohesively themed lands to compete with Disney and Universal. One of these changes that didn't make it past the planning phases was to renovate the Showcase Theatre into the Tinsel Town Theatre, where the facade on the outside would have been modeled after the real-life Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, with a forced perspective Hollywood sign added to the "hill" behind. For reasons unknown, possibly because of the association of the Chinese Theatre in the theme park world with Disney's Hollywood Studios, this idea was scrapped.[2]
