Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Great America was an annual Holiday in the Park event that debuted in 2018. There were four Holiday in the Park events for the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons; the 2020 and 2021 events were both Holiday in the Park Lights events, which is lights-only. The event was not renewed for the 2022 season, citing low attendance and low revenue.

Teasers and announcement[]

In 2015, former CEO of Six Flags, Jim Reid-Anderson, teased of an upcoming Holiday in the Park event to come to the park when he visited the park. He said that the event would be working its way through the chain, and said "We'll see if [Holiday in the Park] makes sense here." [1]

4-1-1[]

On April 4, 2018, the park released a teaser called the "4-1-1", teasing to the big announcement on April 11, 2018, with a photo of X-Flight. [2] On April 10, 2018, the park released it's last teaser of the 4-1-1, reminding everyone that the big announcement would be coming the following day, with a picture of Batman: The Ride in the sunset. [3] On April 11, 2018, the park officially announced "Holiday in the Park", the first in park history.

Promotion[]

Throughout the week of 4-1-1 and following the date, the park went around to multiple radio stations, such as SHE 100.3, talking about the new event, and taking multiple pictures throughout the Chicagoland area. At the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade of 2018, the park went around in winter costumes with signs promoting the event, along with a hummer painted with Holiday in the Park promotion.

Events[]

Each events came with seasonal overlays of each themed area, such as Kalightoscope. The events also came with lights around the park on buildings, and more lights were installed each year. There was indoor and outdoor seasonal shows, such as The MistleTones and Holiday Tree Lighting. Some roller coasters and rides were operating, with the exception of the 2020 season, due to COVID-19 pandemic. The last event was in 2021, finalizing Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Great America for good.

Holiday in the Park 2018[]

This was the first seasonal Holiday in the Park event. It featured the original seasonal overlays, along with walk-around characters, and The Tinseltones, which would sing around the park.

Holiday in the Park 2019[]

This was the second seasonal Holiday in the Park event. It featured new shows, such as The MistleTones and Elves Live!

Holiday in the Park Lights 2020[]

This was the third seasonal Holiday in the Park event. It was announced in a special with Marcus Leshock, WGN reporter, and featured no rides, with everything else outdoors. This featured new shows and experiences, such as The Holidays Bake Me Crazy, Wonderland and Scrooge, a character stationed outside of County Fair Food Court.

Holiday in the Park Lights 2021[]

This is the fourth and last seasonal Holiday in the Park. It mainly featured lights like the previous year, except this event featured some rides (mostly flat rides) and the return of indoor shows.
