Six Flags Hurricane Harbor New Jersey is a Six Flags water park located across the street from Six Flags Great Adventure. It opened in 2000.

History[]

In 1999, Six Flags announced the construction of an all-new separate admission water park, that would be the third property at Six Flags Great Adventure following the main park and Six Flags Wild Safari. This came after the success of the three other Hurricane Harbor parks that opened at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Over Texas in 1995, and at Six Flags St. Louis four years later.

The water park would be the biggest expansion in the park's history, following the "War on Lines" promotion earlier that same year. The War on Lines had resulted in the removal of Adventure Rivers, which was a sort of "mini water park", albeit without a change of clothes required. Unlike Adventure Rivers, the park was to be a full-sized water park with an extensive and immersive tropical theme and with a wide variety of attractions that would include body slides as well as children's areas.

"This is a huge expansion in terms of the overall scope of the water park project. It clearly elevates the Six Flags Great Adventure area into a new category as a destination with multiple park properties. When the new Hurricane Harbor Water Park opens in May, Six Flags will offer three distinctive world of adventure that will entertain guests of all ages."

Official Description[]

A magical and tropically-themed island hideaway of untold beauty. Explorer and inventor Copernicus T. Potter accidentally lands upon this place of wonder, discovering its waters offer the gift of eternal youth. In a noble attempt to share this gift with the world, he attempts to harness the water -- but to no avail. The remnants of his wild contraptions and a menagerie of drawings adorn the island and substantiate the tale.

The Tale of Hurricane Harbor[]

In 1896, Professor Copernicus T. Potter. A noted English inventor, set sail on a voyage in search  of the fabled Fountain of Youth.

After seven years and three months at sea, his ship was caught in the eye of a ferocious hurricane, and by luck and happenstance, was washed up on their shores, which he named Hurricane Harbor.

The friendly inhabitants of the island known as the Bada Bing Tribe, welcomed Professor Potter and adopted him into their clan.

The Bada Bings were given many wonderful inventions by the Professor. And in return, they fulfilled his quest by sharing with him their greatest treasure, Aquatopia. The waters of eternal youth.

It is in this happy place, where even today, Professor Potter and the Bada Bings live in idyllic bliss.

They invite each of you to be young at heart. And to enjoy the wholesome fun and family adventure of Hurricane Harbor.
