Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Phoenix, also known as simply Hurricane Harbor Phoenix, is a Six Flags water park in Phoenix, Arizona. It opened on March 16, 2019. Formerly, the park was known as Wet 'n' Wild Phoenix from 2009 to 2018, and before that the site was home to Waterworld Safari Phoenix.

History[]

Wet 'n' Wild Phoenix (2009–2018)[]

The site of what would later become Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Phoenix originated as Waterworld Safari Phoenix. The park was eventually purchased by Village Roadshow Limited, then the owners of the Wet 'n' Wild brand, who invested over $30 million on capital which included new attractions, as the park was turned into the new Wet 'n' Wild Phoenix. The newly refreshed park opened to the public on July 1, 2009.

In November 2013, CNL Lifestyle Properties signed an agreement to purchase Wet 'n' Wild Phoenix for $33 million. As part of the purchase, the real estate investment trust acquired the North American rights to the Wet 'n' Wild brand name. It was announced that Premier Parks LLC, led by former Six Flags CEO Kieran Burke, would lease not only Wet 'n' Wild Phoenix but Wet 'n' Wild Hawaii.[1]

On May 22, 2018, Six Flags announced that it had entered into purchase agreements with affiliates of Premier Parks, LLC to acquire the lease rights to operate Wet 'n' Wild Phoenix and four other properties owned by EPR Properties. As part of the agreements, Six Flags took over operation of the parks from Premier Parks, LLC.[2]

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Phoenix (2019–present)[]

On August 29, 2019, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Phoenix announced plans to open Paradise Island, the first major expansion to the park since its opening as a Six Flags park. The new, 42,000-square-foot area will feature a 12,000-square-foot activity pool with different water elements as well as things like "floating" lily pads that guests can walk on, and a water basketball court and volleyball pool. Paradise Island will be located near the Coconut Bay children's area and Adventure River. Heather Miles Austin, director of The Ferraro Group, who handles public relations for Hurricane Harbor Phoenix, said construction was scheduled to start in the fall, during the water park's off-season, with an opening planned for summer 2020. The water park closed for the 2019 operating season on October 13.[3]

There were no reported cases of COVID-19 on property, the park stated that the safety of its guests and team members is "always our highest priority". They said that they would continue to monitor these evolving conditions, and would follow current guidance from federal, state and local officials.[4]
