History[]
1984-2019: Magic Waters[]

On October 9, 2018, Six Flags and the Rockford Park District jointly announced that they had reached an agreement to have Magic Waters Waterpark operate as a Six Flags property starting in 2019. The two parties announced that the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners approved a lease agreement that was expected to be signed “in the near future” that would introduce the 43-acre water park to the Six Flags family.[1] The park opened under the same name, Magic Waters, though "A Six Flags Waterpark" had been added as the subtitle to the park's name. Some marketing material referred to the park as Six Flags Magic Waters, though this was not prominently used.
2020-present: Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Rockford[]

On August 29, 2019, Six Flags announced that Magic Waters would be rebranded as Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Rockford for the water park's 2020 season. As part of this, Magic Waters would be renovated completely, with major upgrades to existing attractions as well as new tropical theming to transform the park into the fictional setting of Hurricane Harbor, something that is shared amongst the other water parks of the same name. Six Flags also announced that the water park would also introduce Tidal Wave, a new high-end "tailspin waterslide" attraction that will feature a "dynamic, dreamlike experience with breathtaking color visuals and speed of light sensations". It was touted as the "Midwest's first and only tailspin waterslide", and the 12th slide at the park.[2]
