Civility is a major rule on Six Flags Wiki. The civility policy describes how editors should act about the subjects of pages and towards other editors. Editors are expected to treat one another with respect, even in difficult situations. This policy extends to all of the Wiki, including discussion pages, article space and edit summaries.

Incivility

Incivility on the Six Flags Wiki includes personal attacks and disrespectful comments. This type of behavior can often discourage editors from contributing on the wiki. Minor offenses start with warnings and are forgiven if the behavior is not continued. Continued behavior may result in a block from editing.

This rule does not exclude those who were attacked by someone who wasn't being civil towards them. Retaliatory uncivil attacks can be met with a block for both editors.

What counts as incivility?

Examples of incivility include, but are not limited to:

  • Discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, sexual orientation or financial status
  • Personal attacks about their editing
  • Bringing up past mistakes
  • Aggressive swearing/edit warring
  • Defacing user pages
  • Belittling a user for lack of knowledge on a subject
  • Making fun of one's word choice and/or language skills
  • Accusing users of lying or libel without evidence

Dealing with uncivil behavior

Editors can deal with uncivil behavior in multiple ways:

  • Ask for clarification. Both you and the other editor may have misunderstood each other, so please ask for clarification.
  • Apologize. Consider your actions and review whether it might have been you who had said something wrong. If so, apologize to the other editor. Do not be afraid to apologize.
  • Assume good faith. The other editor may not have meant an uncivil comment. If so, please be rational and be calm and reasonable in your responses.

Blocking

Blocking those who are being uncivil towards others is not immediate. Editors should take into account relevant history and to warn the editor. If uncivil behavior continues and does seem like it will stop, blocking is a last resort.
