Spain is a themed area at Six Flags Over Texas, based on the nation of the same name. It opened with the park on August 5, 1961.
Since the 2000s, it has been grouped together with the larger Mexico section of the park, and they are collectively known as "Mexico & Spain". However, the areas remain separate themes.
History[]
Spain opened on August 5, 1961 as one of the namesake "Six Flags" over Texas.
In 1981, Conquistador opened, a swinging ship ride themed after a 16th century Spanish galleon.
In 2006, Six Flags Over Texas had a flat ride expansion for the park's 45th anniversary. One of the attractions added was La Fiesta de las Tazas, a new teacups ride for children and families.
On August 30, 2018, Six Flags announced Lone Star Revolution, which would be the tallest loop ride in the world. The new loop ride would be added to the Texas section, however plans changed before construction and eventually it was decided that the new ride would be placed in the Spain section instead. On January 25, 2019, Six Flags announced El Diablo, the new name for Lone Star Revolution. It opened to the public on May 28[1], and was the first major addition to the Spain section in over a decade.
