Supergirl Sky Flyer is a Supergirl themed thrill ride at Six Flags St. Louis, and opening at Six Flags New England in 2021. They are the "Endeavour" model rides by Zamperla.
History[]
On August 30, 2018, "Supergirl" was announced for Six Flags St. Louis with the rest of the 2019 New Attraction Announcements. The initial concept renderings that were released were much different from the final product, with the entrance facade sporting a more dark color scheme than the light-blue that it eventually was given.
On May 23, 2019, Supergirl Sky Flyer had a soft opening for members only. Due to technical issues with the ride, members were only allowed on for a handful of runs, with the ride closed most of the day.
On May 25, the Supergirl Sky Flyer opened to the public. That day, Supergirl Sky Flyer suffered several malfunctions, all of which occurred with riders on board. These technical issues carried on from the member previews According to a guest on the ride, Supergirl began to lower, before shaking violently and stopping in mid-air. The guests who were on board for the incidents were given free "exit passes", which allowed them to enter from the exit of any ride.
On August 29, Supergirl Sky Flyer was announced for Six Flags New England's 2020 season.
Ride experience[]
After exiting the ride, guests get on one of 24 "cars", and then they pull down their over-the-shoulder restraints. After the ride is cleared to go, it spins around before the lift arm begins to pull the ride into the sky. It continues to turn until guests are at an almost 90-degree angle. It spins around many times before the ride lowers, and guests get off.
Controversy[]
After its announcement on August 30, 2018, the Six Flags St. Louis version of Supergirl Sky Flyer garnered some backlash from fans for being very similar to its predecessor, Highland Fling, as well as its "unfit" placement in the Britannia section of the park, which has a dominantly Medieval English and Arthurian theme. In a series of polls put out by SFSTL Insider on December 29, 56% of fans said they weren't excited for the attraction, and 70% said that it doesn't belong in Britannia.[1]
Trivia[]
- Supergirl Sky Flyer is the second "Endeavour" model by Zamperla to be installed at a Six Flags theme park, following Catwoman Whip at Six Flags Over Texas.
- The logo and theme of Supergirl Sky Flyer are very similar to Supergirl Sky Flight at Six Flags Mexico. The concept renderings for the ride showed the same cutout of Supergirl used for Supergirl: Sky Flight, though this was changed in the final version.
