The Buccaneer is a swinging ship ride located in the Studio Backlot area at Six Flags St. Louis. It accompanies the attractions Batman: The Ride and the Axis Chemical Arcade. The ride is themed to be the pirate ship of a buccaneer who is inviting guests onboard.

The ride originally opened in 1980 as "The Buccaneer", then part of the USA section of the park. It was later renamed "Yankee Clipper" in 1987 to better fit with the American theme of the area, and when the new Time Warner Studios replaced the USA section in 1995 it became known as "Gotham Harbor". The Time Warner Studios area was reworked into the Warner Bros. Backlot in 1996 and with that change came its new name and theme, "The Joker Inc." In 2024, the ride was once again renamed to its original name of The Buccaneer to avoid confusion with the new attraction opening later that year called The Joker: Carnival of Chaos.

History[]

The Buccaneer (1980–1986)[]

In 1980, The Buccaneer opened as the main attraction added that year, after the Haunted House.

Yankee Clipper (1987–1994)[]

In 1987, The Buccaneer was renamed Yankee Clipper to fit in better with the USA theme of the area.

Gotham Harbor (1995)[]

With the opening of Time Warner Studios and Batman: The Ride in 1995, Yankee Clipper was renamed Gotham Harbor.

The Joker Inc. (1996–2023)[]

In 1996, Six Flags reworked the Time Warner Studios area and reopened it under a new name, Warner Bros. Backlot. This new area featured the "new" The Joker Inc., as well as different streetmosphere experiences to simulate the feeling of being in a working Warner Bros. movie backlot in Hollywood.

The Buccaneer (2024–present)[]

In 2024, the ride's original name of The Buccaneer was restored, and its Joker theming was removed.
