The Joker's Jinx or simply Joker's Jinx is a launched roller coaster located in Gotham City at Six Flags America. It opened on May 8, 1999, and was manufactured by Premier Rides.
The ride is themed to be a "hilariously intimidating concoction" by the evil Joker, who has created a twisted roller coaster to torture Gotham residents.
It features a launch of 0 to 60 mph in just over three seconds, and is one of two LIM coasters at Six Flags parks with a "spaghetti bowl" design, the other being Poltergeist at Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
History[]
The Joker's Jinx opened on May 8, 1999.
Characteristics[]
Joker's Jinx is located in the Gotham City section of the park near Superman: Ride of Steel roller coaster and Whistlestop Park.
Premier Rides built several of these LIM Catapult roller coasters from 1996 to 1999, although only the two Flight of Fear rides are indoors. The other outdoor LIM Catapult coaster in the United States is Poltergeist at Six Flags Fiesta Texas; that opened in 1999. In addition, a LIM Catapult coaster called Mad Cobra operated at Suzuka Circuit in Japan from 1998–2003; Mad Cobra was moved to China and reopened at Kingdoms of Discovery in 2006. The five Premier LIM catapult coasters share a similar layout and have the same technical specifications.
Premier Rides gave the trains an overhaul in 2002 and replaced the restraints with lap bars.
Experience[]
Queue[]
Guests pass underneath the entrance and start in a large switchback section. At one point, the back wall had a wildcard sign. When guests climb the stairs, guests go through another switchback section. This area features funhouse theming and mirrors. It is also located in the loading station. After completing this section, guests board the train.
Layout[]
After boarding Joker's Jinx, riders are launched through a narrow launch tunnel into a "spaghetti bowl" of track which contains a cobra roll, a sidewinder, and many twists and turns. The coaster doesn't have a mid-course brake run like the similar rides at Kings Island and Kings Dominion; instead the coaster has multiple rings that the train goes through. After the rings, riders spiral downward and to the left, and after more twists and turns they pass through a corkscrew before arriving at the ride's final brake run.
Incidents[]
- In 2014, 24 riders were stalled on The Joker's Jinx. It took over 4 hours to safely evacuate them from the ride.[1]
- On April 13, 2017, another 24 riders were stalled on The Joker's Jinx. It took more than 3 hours for the riders to be evacuated.[1]
Trivia[]
- The Joker's Jinx is the fourth DC-themed roller coaster at a Six Flags park to be manufactured by Premier Rides, following Batman & Robin: The Chiller at Six Flags Great Adventure and both Mr. Freeze installations at Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags St. Louis.
