Tidal Wave was a "shoot the chute" water ride in The Boardwalk area of Six Flags Magic Mountain that operated from 1989 to 2019.
History[]
Tidal Wave was manufactured by Intamin and based on its Spillwater ride design. It opened at what was then the Monterey Landing area on June 3, 1989. The original archway entrance was replaced with one featuring a more tropical design during the area's re-theme into the The Movie District in 1998.[1][2] When the area was re-themed once again into The Boardwalk for the 2017 season, the entrance queue to the ride was re-routed.[3]
After Tidal Wave had closed for the season in Fall 2019, operations in the rest of the park were suspended in March 2020 due to the COVID pandemic.[4][5] However, the ride was no longer operating when the park re-opened on April 1, 2021.[6][7]
The remains of the ride were demolished by June 2021 to clear the area for Wonder Woman: Flight of Courage.[8][9] Tidal Wave's former queue area was repurposed for the Saw X haunted maze during Fright Fest 2023.[10]
Ride experience[]
Riders enter a large boat-like flume vehicle that can seat 4 across in 4 rows for a total capacity of up to 16 persons. It is taken up a lift hill to a height of 50 feet, after which it turns around 180 degrees to the left and drops down a humped slope that provides moderate airtime. Upon splashdown, observers on a viewing deck and bridge over the return path typically get drenched.[11][12]
