Originally known as the Calico Log Ride, the attraction was designed by Bud Hurlbut and built by Arrow Dynamics. Constructed at a cost of $3.5 million, the ride opened at the park on July 11, 1969 with actor John Wayne taking the inaugural ride. It is themed after the semi-fictitious Calico Log & Lumber Company in the Old West.[1][2]
The ride was renamed to the "Timber Mountain Log Ride" for the 1974 season to differentiate it from the Calico Mine Ride.[3] During the first five months of 2013, it underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment.[4][5] The animatronics were upgraded with more realistic versions produced by Garner Holt Productions.[6] The ride was closed again for minor refurbishment from February 10 to March 26, 2025.[7][8]
