Ultra Twister was a roller coaster that operated at Six Flags AstroWorld from 1990 until the park's closure in 2005. It previously operated at Six Flags Great Adventure under the same name. This coaster was a TOGO ultra twister pipeline coaster and the only one of its kind in the US, as it originated in Japan.
History[]
In 1990, Ultra Twister opened Six Flags AstroWorld, where it was repainted and subsequent changes to the ride were made. The lift hill was modified from a direct 90 degree vertical ascent to an ascent at a 45 degree angle so that it would be easier to evacuate the lift if necessary. The coaster was changed from its bluish-white color scheme to green and blue in 2004.
Six Flags AstroWorld closed permanently on October 30, 2005. Six Flags relocated rides such as Serial Thriller, which became Ednör - L'Attaque at La Ronde to be reopened or put in storage at other parks. Ultra Twister was relocated to Six Flags America. Its reopening is unlikely, as it is reportedly damaged beyond repair. In 2009, the ride was put up for sale on Ital International, though its entry has since been removed-either due to its sale, or because it failed to sell in a timely fashion since TOGO previously went out of business. It was later removed from the park and possibly scrapped. To this day, there is no such thing as TOGO Ultra Twister Pipeline coasters in the US.
Today, there are many more Ultra Twister's found throughout the world. Actually however, all of which remaining models are located in Japan, where TOGO was established.
