Vipère is a cancelled "Free Fly" roller coaster that would have opened at La Ronde in 2022. It was relocated from Six Flags Magic Mountain where it was known previously as Green Lantern: First Flight. It previously operated at Six Flags Magic Mountain from 2011 to 2017. It was originally scheduled to open at La Ronde for the 2020 season, but was later delayed to the 2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but was later delayed again to the 2022 season. Unfortunately, in early 2022, La Ronde announced that Vipère has officially been cancelled.
History[]
On August 29, 2019, Six Flags announced that Vipère would open at La Ronde for the 2020 season.[1] Due to the growing concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, Six Flags announced a suspension of operations across the company on March 13, 2020.[2] This included all operations at La Ronde, including the construction of the new coaster. While the park resumed normal operations on August 3, 2020 (with a soft limited reopening starting July 25, 2020)[3][4], it did not include Vipère as its construction was still on hold. Earlier in April 2020, in order to financially survive the coronavirus pandemic, Six Flags announced measures for the company that would defer capital projects across the company slated for the 2020 season.[5]
According to a park representative, the construction work for the new coaster was delayed and Vipère was expected to open for the 2022 season, but was then was announced to be cancelled that year. [6] [7]
