Viper was a "shuttle loop" roller coaster located in the Cotton States section of Six Flags Over Georgia. It opened on April 29, 1995 and was manufactured by Schwarzkopf.
Marketed as the coaster that "strikes twice", it was one of two shuttle loop coasters owned by Six Flags Theme Parks at the time, the other being Greezed Lightnin' at Six Flags AstroWorld, which closed along with the park on October 30, 2005.
The ride permanently closed on September 16, 2001, to make way for Superman: Ultimate Flight, a flying coaster, which opened on April 6, 2002. The coaster was then relocated to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in 2003, where it became Greezed Lightnin', sharing its name with the other shuttle loop coaster at Six Flags AstroWorld. It closed after the 2009 season and was intended to reopen the following year, but was unable to when Six Flags lost control over the property in 2010 due to financial issues during the company's bankruptcy. The ride was finally demolished in 2013.
History[]
Viper was once Tidal Wave when it operated at Six Flags Great America from 1978 to 1991. It was replaced by the wildly successful Batman: The Ride in 1992.
In 1995, Tidal Wave was relocated to Six Flags Over Georgia and became Viper. On September 16, 2001, Viper closed to the public. In 2003, Viper moved to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom as Greezed Lightnin'. It closed in 2009 and was demolished in 2013.
Viper would be replaced by Superman Ultimate Flight in 2002 after its removal in 2001.
Ride experience[]
The ride starts when the train catapults from 0-57 mph in 6 seconds into a vertical loop. Following that, is a vertical spike which is 138 feet tall. The train goes backward into the vertical loop again. It then goes through the station and up another vertical spike. The train goes forwards back into the station.
