Windjammer Surf Racers was a dueling steel roller coaster located at the Boardwalk area of Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California.
History[]
The ride was manufactured by TOGO and opened at the park on March 26, 1997, replacing the beloved Wacky Soap Box Racers. The coaster became disliked due to its misaligned track, roughness, and the coaster would shut down from windspeeds that are less then 3 mph. After these numerous reliability issues, Windjammer Surf Racers was closed on March 2, 2000. Knott's filed a lawsuit against TOGO, and although the lawsuit was rejected by a jury, TOGO's reputation in the United States never recovered. After Windjammer was dismantled, it was replaced by Xcelerator, which opened in 2002.[1][2] While TOGO still manufactures parts for its existing rides today, they haven't built a new coaster since their bankruptcy.
